Children’s Book Review
I read a lot of children’s books, as I’m sure a lot of other parents with young children do. I don’t think other parents read them the same way I do though. At least not the majority of them.
As a writer, I’m constantly analyzing books as I read them to my daughter, to see what works and what doesn’t. Some kid’s books make me wonder why they were published. Others, it’s obvious.
One book we recently checked out from the library made me laugh out loud. It’s obvious why it was published. It’s the cutest kids book I’ve read in a while. It’s Hooway For Wodney Wat by Helen Lester.
My daughter picked it out from the shelf. When she handed it to me, it took me a second to read the title. Just looking at the title confused me. The only word I recognized was “for”. I thought, what is this and what is a “wat”? Then I read it. I couldn’t help but laugh. It’s about a rat who can’t pronounce r’s. This poor rat is picked on by the other rodents, until he is able to get rid of the new rodent at school that terrorizes the rest of them. My daughter enjoyed the story and it was fun to read out loud. If you have young children, I highly recommend reading this book. I’ll be looking for her other books the next time we go to the library.
Happy Weading 🙂
