and the cycle repeats

I’ve been in a writing rut lately and I’m not sure how to get out of it.  I was doing pretty good for a while, staying on track and getting my writing time in.  Then I hit a bit of a snag.  I realized there were a few big issues with my story line that I need to work out.  And then there were a few weeks where my schedule got interrupted by life (ie. family visiting, tax time, sick kids) and now I’m having a hard time getting back into the rhythm I had going.  I think if these two things happened separately, I’d be fine, but having them coincide completely derailed me.  I feel like I keep repeating this cycle of getting derailed for one reason or another, but I’m no closer to avoiding it.  I’m slowly getting back on track, but it will take some time to get back to where I was.  My only solution to this cycle is to ride it out and get back to writing once it’s taken its course.  Has this happened to you?  If so, how did you get back on track and how do you keep it from happening again?

Happens all the time. Kids get sick, husband gets sick, there’s a home-related urgent matter…so, while I don’t think that as moms we can keep it from happening again, I think we can keep “getting back up.” For me, writing in the early morning hours helps. Getting back in flow takes a little time. How’s it going with the story line? Good luck!

“Getting back up” is the key! Thank you for stopping by and commenting. It’s nice to hear others go through the same things and are able to keep going. The story line is coming along, some of the main issues have worked themselves out and it’s just some minor things I need to flesh out now. I look forward to exploring your blog a bit more. I think it will be very helpful for me.

Glad to see you’re back. I hear you describing the cycle that is life- everyone’s life- I believe. Whether you’re writing a novel or paying off debt there are always hiccups. It’s revisiting the goal and gathering momentum yet again that counts. Sounds like you’re doing that to me. All things come in there own sweet time. Your time is approaching, just keep aiming for the goal. Little steps will bring you miles. (Katie)
