Getting ready for a big push in more ways than one

I just signed up for NaNoWriMo and I’m excited about it. I don’t know if I’ll reach 50,000 words or not, especially since the novel I have planned is for middle grade readers. (This in itself is HUGE for me.  I have been wanting to write a novel for years now and could never get one plotted start to finish, but I have it now thanks to the Institute of Children’s Literature.)  I have no idea how to come up with an estimated word count, but my guess is it will only be around 35,000-40,000 and my instructor from the Institute agrees. As long as NaNoWriMo gets me writing though and especially if I finish the first draft, I will consider it a success, 50,000 words reached or not.  (I need to turn in the first three chapters of my novel as the final assignment for the Institute and I set November 30 as the due date for that, so I’m thinking it’s a win-win situation for me.  Even if I completely flounder with NaNoWriMo, I’ll at least get my assignment done.)
These will be my challenges to overcome in November:
1. Our tv is broken and so my husband has been using my computer as a DVD player when he comes in from working out in his shop.
2. I have a 4-year-old who keeps me busy.
3. I’m 31 weeks pregnant and am always exhausted (reason number 2 compounds this reason).
4. November is also the month I need to get everything ready for the birth of baby 2 as we are planning a home birth.
Obstacles in place, 7 days to prepare and 30 days to succeed. I’m very curious to see how it turns out.  Stay tuned.
